Outstanding Woody: I Ain't Got No Home; Hobo's Lullaby; Woody's Rag. Outstanding Leadbelly: Fannin Street, Rock Island Line, Goodnight Irene and Midnight Special. If this doesn't make you go out and by more of both of them, nothing will. Also recommended: "Greatest Songs of Woody Guthrie" including a few by Odetta - outstanding. I have worn dance shoes my entire life, so when I saw these, I assumed that they would have the same amount of great flexibility. I was wrong and they are quite rough on the inside, but it means they are tougher on the outside too. The shoe laces are absolute crap, so you may want to change them out, but it shouldn't be more than $2. The glitter did not fall off to easily, which was surprising. Like most everybody, I bought it after purchasing the tribute to Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly, Folkways: A Vision Shared. That album (featuring everyone from Little Richard to U2), plus this original Folkways compilation, is a fine introduction to Woody and Leadbelly. But, I just discovered (and purchased) a new, remastered, and expanded version of the album - click here. So, this one gets four stars, because that's the one that deserves five! |
